Why Do We Electroplate Rather Than Powder Coat?

Batteries by nature are extremely corrosive. They have a high percentage acid content and under extreme conditions, such as heat and load, they can give off fumes and weep. The corrosive effects of acids can destroy metal parts in an incredibly short period of time, so all metal parts under a bonnet need to be protected by some sort of coating.
Powder Coating provides an efficient barrier between metal and acids, but it is brittle and can chip or scratch leaving an area for the acid to penetrate. Once the acid penetrates the surface it travels between the metal and the powder coating and literally eats the tray from the inside out.

That is why Piranha Electroplate their trays. Electroplating using zinc is recognised as the most flexible and reliable method of rust proofing steel. The process uses electricity to deposit a fine coat of zinc onto the steel. The zinc bonds atom by atom at a molecular level to provide protection from corrosion. Piranha uses 8 to 12 microns of zinc with a yellow chromate conversion to impart a high level of wear and corrosion resistance.
