MAN LAW # 8: A proper sear negates any harmful effect of a steak falling on the ground

Steaks are cooked to personal taste rare, medium or well-done but all too often, this involves a bit of hit and miss cooking. The prime rule is to remember not to cut into a steak to see if its ready youll lose all the juices. You can check the state of your steak by touching it. Press the surface of the steak with the tongs. Rare steak is soft to the touch; the outside is brown and the inside is red. Medium steak is firm to the touch, well browned on the outside and pink on the inside. Well-done steak is very firm to the touch, very brown on the outside, evenly cooked on the inside but not dry.

The easier and far more accurate way to test your steak is to use the MAN LAW glow-in-the-dark steak gauges. The gauges come in four different colours with dial faces and pointers that glow in the dark. They are made of stainless steel with a temperature range from 0'C to 300'C and they are dishwasher safe.

Useful hint: save your bay tree or rosemary bush clippings to toss onto your BBQ fire before cooking. The flavours of the herbs will add a subtle flavour to the meat or vegetables.
