Mlum=Conceptual pop and performance art ensemble Mlum is a conceptual pop and performance art ensemble which, previous to the release of this CD, has collaborated in the creation and performance of a rant and croon cycle entitled RISK CANTATA; provided incidental music for the rock musical, GENERATOR GIRL; created intermezzi for an experimental staging of Gian Carlo Menotti's opera THE MEDIUM and, this last spring, premiered EGO, a popera electronica commissioned by the University of Redlands. In addition, Mlum has crashed numerous karaoke nights at local bowling alleys in order to deliver hair raising performances of what it calls hara-kirioke (a fusion of karaoke, Japanese No drama and Theater of Cruelty) to stunned, not to mention, annoyed white trash audiences. With a musical style that can best be described as Weltradau (World Noise), Mlum makes the best out of the worst that music has to offer and vice versa. Bodily functions, Balinese gamelan, ethnoise and sound mauls are counted among Mlum's greatest inspirations. Core members: MICHAEL RACO-RANDS/lead guitarist of the Punk Rock-a-Billy group THE EARWIGS, which pounded the late night LA music and radio scene in the early 80's, is an underground film composer and a Mlum groove imp. Michael's musical GENERATOR GIRL, for which he was composer and co-lyricist, received it's LA premiere in the summer of 2001. PROPH MARCO/professor of voice at a prestigious private university, has performed as a soloist throughout Europe and Japan, singing leading roles with such organizations as Bayerische Staatsoper, Bayersische Staatsballet and Radio Vaticana. He was director, during the mid to late 80's, of the POETRY FOR LANDFILLS PROJECT in Germany and Austria for which he created and directed BANGRAKU and ARTAUD/FRAG MEN T's. At the start of the 90's, Marco haunted the underground spoken word and zine scene before retreating to study the void. Auxiliary members: LUIS V/ whose guitar stylings can be currently heard on the newly released CD, MARIACHI MAMBO Y MAS, with MARIACHI IMPERIAL continues to work in developing his unique 'Meximenco' (Mexican/Flamenco fusion) style. Luis has appeared in television in LA's 'Fiesta Broadway', and is Mlum's fave kidnap victim. CORRADO GONG/choreographer and coordinator of underground sex shows and erotic festivals in East Germany while the wall was still up, was a member of the POETRY FOR LANDFILLS PROJECT and collaborated with Proph Marco in the filming of BANGRAKU, a conceptual porn flick that condemned hypersexualization within mainstream culture. Calling upon the talents of blow up dolls, skin heads, Turko-German gang bangers and a Bunraku puppeteer, BANGRAKU combined elements of Bunraku (Japanese puppet) theatre and peep show aesthetic to create the proto-Mlum cinematic experience. As a result of U.S. pop culture's continued obsession with 'silly sex', Gong has retired to the Orient to study mysticism and contributes to Mlum via cyberspace and channeling.
