TASTING NOTES
WINEMAKER'S COMMENTS
Since its establishment in 1971, the Hickinbotham Vineyard has become a part of Australia's wine heritage, supplying fruit to produce many of Australia's greatest wines. Breathing new life into this historic vineyard, winemakers Chris Carpenter and Peter Fraser are forging a new era of Hickinbotham's prestigious legacy: building upon and honouring the vineyard's acclaimed pedigree.
AROMA
The 2021 Trueman expresses cassis, rose hips, mint and Asian spice on the nose.
PALATE
Dark cherry, cedar, slight toast and silky tannins on the palate.
GRAPES/BLEND
97% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Malbec.
VINIFICATION
Hand-picked, destemmed, whole berry sorted and gently crushed to open top fermenters. Cold soaked, pumped over daily with a minimum of 21 days on skins. Basket pressed with light pressings included in free run directly to 50% new and used French oak barriques.
VINTAGE NOTES
The growing season was affected by a very hot spring, leading to the lowest yields on our record. When the grapes started their ripening process in January, the weather miraculously cooled to a very mild ripening season. This resulted in wonderful concentration of flavour, retention of natural acidity and brightness of fruit, delivering wines with beautiful finesse and balanced tannins.
CELLARING POTENTIAL
2022-2032.

EXPERT REVIEWS
MARYANN WOROBIEC
94 Points
A stunning, velvety red, with hints of dried spearmint, resin, toasted tobacco and bay leaf, plus fresh earth accents to complement the spiced plum, kirsch and huckleberry notes. Long, expressive finish, where the tannins firm up pleasantly. Drink now.
