An elegant and rare blend of eaux-de-vie at the peak of flavour. Perfectly marrying the Grande Champagne and Borderies crus, starting at the delicate age of 30 and maturing up to and beyond 50 years old.

The Initiale's fragrance starts with humid forest and rich truffle aroma, then port wine and cedar wood, followed by spicy hints of hot fruit cake. Courvoisier's ageing warehouses, with their humid conditions, develop over time, the exquisite aroma of truffles. Deliciously evocative, this aroma is born of the maturation of the very old Borderies grapes at their absolute peak. During the long ageing process, the volume of cognac gradually reduces, making it more concentrated. This gives it the 'rancio' aroma - earthy and mushroomy.
