Ardbeg 1999 Galileo Single Malt Whisky

Ardbeg Distillery (Scottish Gaelic: Taigh-stail Airde Beaga) is a distillery in Ardbeg on the south coast of the isle of Islay, Argyll and Bute, Scotland, in the Inner Hebrides group of islands.
The distillery is owned by Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy, and produces a heavily peated Islay whisky. The distillery uses malted barley sourced from the maltings in Port Ellen.
The Ardbeg distillery has been producing whisky since 1798 and began commercial production in 1815.

The Ardbeg Galileo 1999 was released in September 2012. Aged for 12-13 years, the Galileo is a combination of casks matured in first-fill bourbon casks and enhanced with a finishing in ex-Marsala wine casks.
Galileo's concept is in celebration of an experiment whereby small quantities of Ardbeg were sent into space at the end of 2011 to see how they mature in zero gravity.

Nose: Softer than standard Ardbeg peat, sweet tinned fruit cup, oak, vanilla.

Taste: Gain softer entry, then it builds with flavours of sweet over ripe melon and pineapple, light spice and a nice oak bite.

Finish: Peat is most bold as you exhale, ashy and dirty now, the sweet fruit cup lingers and oddly now I get watermelon joining the fruit party. Lingers nicely.
