At the Black Cottage we are dedicated to producing a range of wines full of 'gusto'. Combining select parcels of fruit with modern and alternative winemaking techniques, we strive to create very special wines which are approachable and delicious.

The Black Cottage, situated in the heart of the Wairau Valley, is where winemaker David Clouston lives and spends quality time with friends and family. It is also the quiet space in which he contemplates and constructs the very special wines on which he has built a fine reputation.

WINEMAKER'S COMMENTS
Black Cottage Rose was inspired by founder, Dave Clouston's long stints in Corsica and the South of France where he crafted fresh, crisp, dry, light pink rose wines.

APPEARANCE
Light copper pink in colour.

AROMA
An attractive and stylish New Zealand Rose full of rockmelon, rose petals, and sea breeze aromas.

PALATE
Red berry, spice and Provence herb flavours mingle on an elegant, well-balanced palate. The wine has crunchy acidity with a savoury, yet refreshingly juicy finish.

VINIFICATION

Treated as a white wine in the cellar, this rose was fermented cold in stainless steel tank.

VINTAGE NOTES
With a long drawn- out summer, without excessive heat waves, our grapes were allowed to gain physiological ripeness at lower than normal sugar levels. Our harvest decisions were made purely on flavour rather brix levels.
