The Macallan Amber Single Malt Whisky

The Macallan was one of the first distillers in Scotland to be legally licensed. Since then, Macallan has built a reputation as one of the worlds leading single malt whiskies. The creation of The Macallan draws on the vital contributing influences of Spain, North America and Scotland - and of their respective natural raw materials, combined with traditional methods and craftsmanship.
The Macallan distillery was founded by Alexander Reid, a barley farmer and school teacher. The original name of the area was Maghellan, taken from the Gaelic word magh, meaning fertile ground and Ellan, from the Monk St.Fillan - who held a close association with the church that stood in the grounds of The Macallan Estate until 1400. Farmers had been making whisky on their Speyside farms in the area for centuries, using their surplus barley during the quieter winter months.

This was part of the now-discontinued Macallan 1824 range which was produced between 2012 and 2018. It focussed on the "natural colour" element of the Macallan six pillars and consisted of the Gold, Amber, Sienna and Ruby. With the discontinuation of the range, only the Gold expression was retained, transitioning to the entry level of the new Double Cask series.
Amber is exclusively matured in sherry oaks casks from Jerez, delivering full bodied aromas and flavours of fruits: fresh green apples and lemons intertwined with cinnamon and ginger with a subtle oak lingering on the outskirts.

Nose: Polite, almost apologetic at first, with a floral, citrus sweet nose that gains presence, commanding a chorus of vanilla notes over freshly harvested grain. Raisin, sultana and cinnamon look on as toffee apples and candy floss step into the limelight.

Taste: Fresh green apples and lemons mingle with cinnamon. Ginger notes hover as fruit takes over, with subtle oak lingering in the wings.

Finish: Light to medium with soft fruits and cereal, slightly dry.
