Deep-throated frame for measuring thickness of sheet metal, paper, plastic, or rubber parts
Vernier scale in inch units for taking precise outside diameter (OD) measurements
Ratchet-stop mechanism helps provide uniform pressure for precise, repeatable measurements
Satin chrome finish on thimble and sleeve helps resist rust and reduce glare
Carbide facing on spindle and anvil provides wear resistanceThe Mitutoyo 118 series sheet metal micrometre has a deep-throated frame for measuring thickness of sheet metal, paper, plastic, or rubber parts, and a vernier scale in metric units for taking precise outside diameter (OD) measurements. A ratchet-stop mechanism helps provide uniform pressure for precise, repeatable measurement. The micrometre’s frame has a baked enamel finish for protection and durability. The vernier scale on the thimble and sleeve is graduated to 0.01mm, depending on the model, with a satin chrome rust- and glare-resistant finish. The measuring faces are carbide-tipped for wear resistance. A spindle lock helps provide secure locking of the measurement position. The micrometre comes with a plastic case for storage.Micrometres are precision measuring instruments that use a calibrated screw to measure small distances. These measurements are translated into large rotations of the screw that are then able to be read from a scale or a dial. Micrometres are typically used in manufacturing, machining, and mechanical engineering. There are three types of micrometre: outside, inside, and depth. Outside micrometres may also be called micrometre callipers, and are used to measure the length, width, or outside diameter of an object. Inside micrometres are typically used to measure interior diameter, as in a hole. Depth micrometres measure the height, or depth, of any shape that has a step, groove, or storage.Micutoyo manufactures precision measuring tools, metrology equipment, and systems. The company was founded in Tokyo in 1934 and formed Mitutoyo America Corporation in 1963, which is headquartered in Aurora, IL.
