Schloss Neuschwanstein or Neuschwanstein Castle is a 19th-century Romanesque Revival palace on a rugged hill above the village of Hohenschwangau near Füssen in southwest Bavaria, Germany. The palace was commissioned by reclusive Ludwig II of Bavaria as a retreat but was opened to the public soon after his death in 1886. It is now a popular tourist attraction with around 1.3 million visitors a year. It has appeared prominently in several movies and was the inspiration for Disney's Sleeping Beauty Castle.
