**The Story of Akagi Aircraft Carrier:**The imperial Japanese navy vessel Akagi lived a life of many changes and she was originally laid down in Dec 1920 as part of the Amagi-class battlecruisers. But unlike her sister ships, Akagi was retained for conversion to an aircraft carrier and she was launched in Apr 1925 with a distinctive appearance of three separate flight decks in theory allowing for many aircraft to be launched at once. She was able to reach over 32 knots initially in service with an in-service air group of 52 active aircraft. The ship was taken in for full modernisation in 1935 and her original three flight decks consolidated into a single enlarged flight deck and an island superstructure. A number of twin 25-millimeter light anti-aircraft guns were mounted along with new fire control directors. All of the works increased the aircraft carrying capacity to above 80 active units at least in theory.
