History:
Like many Arctic and Antarctic species, polar bears are considered vulnerable on the conservation status spectrum mainly due to the effects of climate change and global warming. Because of rising temperatures, sea ice is melting earlier than it should during the winter and eliminating polar bears' opportunity to hunt seals and build up fat reserves to survive the more challenging seasons.
