Springbank Longrow 13 Year Old Red Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon

Springbank distillery is located in Campbeltown, a picturesque Scottish town situated at the southern end of the Kintyre Peninsula on the glorious west coast.
The first reference to Campbeltown whisky is recorded in writing in 1591. Springbank was established in 1828 on the site of Archibald Mitchells illicit still, becoming the 14th licensed distillery in Campbeltown. Today, Springbank is one of only three distilleries operating in the Campbeltown area and is the oldest independent family-owned distillery in Scotland.

Named after another lost distillery of Campbeltown (which once operated right next door to Springbank and whose warehouse now houses our bottling hall), Longrow was first produced in 1973 to provide a peaty, oily and robust component to a blend being created at the time. More heavily peated and double distilled, it has been a staple in the production calendar since the 1990s.

The 2020 edition of The Longrow 13 Year Old from Springbank has been matured 10 years in bourbon casks and refill sherry hogheads, followed by 3 years in Cabernet Sauvignon barrels from Mont Gras, Intriga Estate in Alto Maipo located at the foot of the Andes in Chile.
Only 9,000 bottles at cask strength released.

Nose: Stewed strawberries, light tire rubber, vanilla frosting.

Taste: Medium peat (clean), baking spice, funk, oak, sweetness is trying to poke through with more stewed red fruits.

Finish: The peat/spice/funk lingers quite some time, after all the strawberries come back in a candied form now with vanilla again.
